宋濂(1310-1381),字景濂,号潜溪,谥文宪,浦江(在今浙江义乌县西北) 人。 明初著名文学家。 受业于元末古文大家吴莱、 柳贯、黄溍等, 明初主修 《元史》 , 后历任国子司业、侍讲学士,后官至翰林学士承旨,知制诰。学识渊博,工散文, 文字简练朴素,与刘基、高启为明初诗文三大家。宋濂很受朱元璋器重,为明代 “开国文臣之首”。平生著作很多,有《宋学士文集》 。

《送东阳马生序》是宋濂写于晚年的一篇劝学之作。马生,马君则,国子 监太学生。序,也称作“叙”或称作“引”,有如今日的“引言”、“前言”,是说明书 籍著述、出版意图、编次体例和作者情况的文章。也可包括对作家作品的评论和 对有关问题的研究阐发。“序”一般写在书籍或文章的前面,也有列在后面的,如 ,列于书后面的称为“跋”或“后序”。赠序,古代送别以诗文 《史记太史公自序》 相赠,写在诗文前的文字称为赠序。赠序多为推重、赞许或勉励之辞。本文即属 此类。
